We’ve just gotten underway, and already we’re making an impact! Members of the Hoosier EVA have helped to post a public petition about tax relief for EV drivers. Here’s the TL/DR:
In April 2026, Indiana Governor Mike Braun halted all state gas taxes, to offer some relief from skyrocketing fuel prices for drivers. This tax moratorium has been in place ever since. However, drivers of EVs and hybrids mostly don’t “pay at the pump,” they pay an annual fee on their vehicle registrations – $81 for hybrids and $242 for EV drivers. We think with over 200,000 electric vehicle drivers on the road in the state, they should see some relief, too.
Thanks to Kevin Whited, we started a petition on Change.org to send to the Governor to request relief for EV drivers. Sign the petition here.
The petition resulted in the Public News Service covering the story, and the article has been picked up in either web, print or broadcast form in multiple Indiana cities, as well as in the states of Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Delaware, New York, Ohio, Maryland, Wisconsin, Illinois, Idaho and Maine! See the full article here.
Our thanks to Kevin and Jennifer Wagner at Mass Avenue PR. This is what Hoosier EVA is all about!
